Northstar Meetings Group is proud to present the winners of our inaugural Stella Awards, which recognize organizations worldwide that deliver the greatest possible service to meetings and events professionals. The awards celebrate critical aspects of the event experience across 18 different categories among six regions, including food and beverage, professionalism of staff, technology innovations, green initiatives and more

We will feature a weekly showcase of 2017 Stella Award winners from each category. This week we showcase the Best Green Initiative. Below is just a sampling of the Best Green Initiative winners that stood out to the expert panel of judges overseen by the editors of Northstar Meetings Group's leading brands, Meetings & Conventions and Successful Meetings. Finalists in each category were determined by industry professionals during an open voting period; you can view all winners and finalists here.

As we congratulate and celebrate our 2017 winners, nominations have opened for the 2018 Stella Awards. We invite you to nominate deserving industry suppliers to be considered for next year's honors. Stay tuned for open voting in the coming months.

BEST GREEN INITIATIVE

Sustainability makes good business sense - helping to reduce overall costs, improve an organization's reputation and, of course, benefit the environment. Today's planners strive to incorporate more green practices into their events, and these Stella Award-winning hoteliers and suppliers have heeded the call. Outstanding strategies offered include sustainable food-and-beverage planning, extensive recycling programs, socially conscious team-building activities and green meeting initiatives, such as using post-consumer recycled products, paperless communication, green transportation options and more.

The Venetian, The Palazzo and the Sands Expo Convention Center

Winner, Best Green Initiative (Far West)

The Venetian and The Palazzo are on the forefront of the sustainability movement. In Newsweek's 2016 Green Ratings, parent company Las Vegas Sands was named the most sustainable leading hospitality company in the world. The Venetian and The Palazzo continually invest in technologies and programs that minimize the environmental impact of events, including green meetings concierges who can design custom sustainability initiatives to address the unique needs and goals of every meeting.

Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong

Winner, Best Green Initiative (International and U.S. Territories)

The ISO 14001 certified Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong implements a range of strategies to reduce, reuse and recycle. Its culinary sustainability initiative "Rooted in Nature" and introduction of electric cars and charging stations support their efforts in preserving the environment. The "Experience IT" meeting packages offer unique activities like a tai-chi class against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour, eco-tours, local volunteering initiatives and healthy cooking lessons with hotel chefs.
