Although it's best known for its over-the-top indoor waterparks, Kalahari Resorts and Conventions wants you to know that its properties are designed for doing serious business as well as having serious fun. It's therefore embarking on a major meeting-space expansion at two of its resorts, it announced this week.
At its property in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains
, Kalahari plans to open an additional 134,000 square feet of meeting space, bringing the size of the resort's convention facility to 234,000 square feet. Scheduled for completion in late 2019, the expansion will add 21 new meeting rooms -- resulting in 39 total meeting spaces -- as well as a 38,000-square-foot ballroom, a 9,000-square-foot junior ballroom, and a new executive conference center for up to 400 guests.
Also in late 2019, Kalahari will open a 130,000-square-foot expansion (pictured) at its resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI
, bringing the property's total meeting space to 230,000 square feet. Plans call for a new 56,000-square-foot ballroom to join the resort's existing 20,560-square-foot and 17,200-square-foot ballrooms.
"When we first opened Kalahari, we definitely had our work cut out for us to encourage adoption of the idea that a convention center and indoor waterpark could exist in the same business model," said Todd Nelson, owner, Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. "We were steadfast in our vision, and it's been incredible to see the demand grow exponentially for an unparalleled group experience paired with award-winning amenities and attractions. The expansion of our convention centers nationwide will help meet this demand."Up your meetings-industry IQ. Check out the latest edition of 30 Seconds to Smart!
