Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa, synonymous with the Hamptons, is expanding into a new market for the first time. The former Hyatt Regency Newport hotel in Newport, RI, will transform into Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina. The resort is adding banquet and catering space, said to be the largest in the city, that will span 27,000 square feet and will include two ballrooms and 50,000 square feet of outdoor event space.
Situated on 10 acres of undisturbed waterfront, Gurney's Newport will have 257 guest rooms and suites, a full-service spa, event space, and year-round dining. The property will undergo the makeover this year, staying true to its New England origins, while infusing updated design elements and enhanced amenities. In May, the brand's signature restaurant, Scarpetta will open.
"Newport is an incredible year-round destination, and we're excited to become part of the community with the new Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina," George Filopoulos, Gurney's president and owner, said. "The authenticity of a classic New England getaway will be brought to life on-site in the design, bespoke programming, and culinary offerings, which will create an engaging lifestyle experience for guests."
