Las Vegas is home to restaurants by some of the world's top culinary talent, including Emeril Lagasse, Michael Mina, Wolfgang Puck, Nobu Matsuhisa, Gordon Ramsay, Todd English, and Bobby Flay. One chef who's been noticeably absent from the Strip, however, has been Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto -- until now, that is, as the Japanese star of Food Network's "Iron Chef America" has finally opened his first Las Vegas restaurant, Moriomoto Las Vegas, MGM Resorts International announced last week.

Located in The District at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, adjacent to Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak, Moriomoto Las Vegas specializes in upscale Japanese cuisine melding Eastern and Western flavors that guests can enjoy in any of the restaurant's three distinct dining experiences: a sushi bar showcasing Morimoto's signature sushi art, such as the Chef's Combination, also known as "Morimoto Stained Glass Rolls" because of the rolls' colorful, geometric appearance; a main dining room serving dishes like Duck Duck Goose, which combines duck meatball soup with duck confit fried rice and gooseberry compote; and Teppan tables, where guests can grill a variety of a la carte items on Japanese iron griddles.

"Fate brought Morimoto Las Vegas to MGM Grand at an exciting time when the city's dining scene is flourishing," Morimoto said. "I'm continually inspired by Las Vegas' glamour and wanted to create something we haven't done before with a stimulating culinary show, bold cuisine and delicious drinks that my guests will not soon forget."

It's not just the food that will shine at Morimoto Las Vegas. The ambiance will, too. Created by design firm Glamorous, the restaurant's interior features a number of unique highlights, such as a cherry blossom wall behind the bar, a life-sized bust of Morimoto composed of red and white ropes crafted by Brazilian sculptor Mozart Guerra, and a glass-enclosed room displaying luxury cuts of meat like Japanese A-5 Wagyu. 

Morimoto Las Vegas is open 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
