The famed Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs
, CO., will open a luxury guest ranch and wilderness retreat in August 2013, it announced last week.
Called The Ranch at Emerald Valley, the ranch will be located eight miles west of The Broadmoor in Pike National Forest. All-inclusive, it will feature 10 cabins sleeping a total of 34 guests, who will enjoy chef-prepared meals served in the "Grand Lodge," a gathering place with a large stone hearth, a bar and a terrace.
Activities will include fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding and wildlife watching, not to mention all the amenities at The Broadmoor — multiple swimming pools, a fitness center, golf
, shops, a spa and several dining options — which will be available to ranch guests along with transportation to the nearby resort.
Open seasonally from May until October, the ranch originally was purchased in 1923 by gold magnate Spencer Penrose, who built The Broadmoor in 1918 and used the ranch — then called Camp Vigil — as his personal retreat.
"Reconnecting the history of The Ranch at Emerald Valley with The Broadmoor is a perfect complement to our heritage," said Broadmoor President and CEO Steve Bartolin. "We're excited to offer guests an authentic Colorado wilderness experience. The service and cuisine at The Ranch will be at Broadmoor standards, while guests can enjoy access to the outstanding amenities at the resort."
