Nearly two years after current owner NCC PS Enterprises LLC rescued it from bankruptcy, The National Conference Center in Leesburg, VA, has completed an 18-month, multimillion-dollar renovation, it announced last week.
Led by LaKota Hotels & Resorts, which has been managing the property on behalf of its investors, the renovation began with the concrete exteriors of the venue's six connected buildings, each of which was painted with patriotic motifs to celebrate the venue's proximity to Washington, DC, and historic Leesburg, which was founded around 1755 by colonist Thomas Lee.
Also updated were the lobby, which was finished with polished millwork and new carpet made from recycled bottles and caps; the property's unused gift shop, which was converted into a "living room" with flight monitors where guests can check their flights and computer stations where guests can work; the guest rooms, which were adorned with new murals to make the cozy accommodations feel larger; and the property's food-and-beverage outlets, which received a complete makeover.
Once home to a cafeteria-style food program, the 900-seat dining room was renovated to showcase farm-to-table cuisine instead of a buffet, with updated seating areas that include new floor and wall treatments, colorful new tablescapes, and new custom artwork. The property's bar also was updated and features a new bar; new tiles, millwork, and carpets; improved lighting; new seating; and a new area for live entertainment and karaoke. Finally, two adjoining meeting rooms were turned into a new speakeasy-style lounge called The National Secret.
Renovations are expected to continue throughout 2017, encompassing additional improvements to the property's guest rooms; dining room, which will be outfitted to accommodate more live demonstration cooking; outdoor courtyards, which will be enhanced with firepits and landscaping; and meeting space, which will be refreshed with enhanced technology, floor and wall treatments, and lighting.
"We are extremely proud that this challenging task was accomplished so quickly," said Geoff Lawson, general manager and vice president of The National Conference Center. "It is certainly a record in the conference center industry."
