The Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) will hold its 2018 National Education Conference & Expo (NEC) June 4-8, 2018, in Norfolk, VA, it announced last week. The group last met in Norfolk in 2011, and in 2002 prior to that.

"We are really happy to bring the NEC back to Norfolk for our 37th annual conference and for the third time," SGMP National President Rob Coffman said in a statement. "This is a great opportunity for us to deliver exceptional best practices and training to a large audience of government meeting professionals."

Norfolk was chosen in large part because of its sizable military and government population.

"We are honored to have been selected as the host of the 2018 SGMP National Educational Conference & Expo," said Anthony DiFilippo, president and CEO of VisitNorfolk. "Norfolk has a long history as a military and transportation hub and a strong government presence. VisitNorfolk and our hospitality partners look forward to welcoming SGMP back to our historic seaport city."

SGMP will hold its 2015 NEP in Minneapolis next month. Its 2016 NEP will take place in San Diego, and its 2017 NEP in Fort Lauderdale.
