Kalahari Resorts and Conventions
announced yesterday that work is officially underway on its first resort in the South -- Kalahari Resorts Round Rock.
"Kalahari is thrilled to bring our authentic African resort experience to the South," said Todd Nelson, owner of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. "As the Round Rock property begins construction, we look forward to contributing to the local economy and sharing our beyond-expectations approach to hospitality with area vacation-goers, conference attendees, and local guests throughout the region."
Located on 350 acres in Round Rock, TX -- approximately 20 miles north of Austin -- Kalahari Resorts Round Rock will be Kalahari's fourth resort, joining existing resorts in Wisconsin Dells, WI; Sandusky, OH; and Pocono Manor, PA. Scheduled to open in 2020, it will boast nearly 1,000 guest rooms, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites; outdoor pools spanning three acres; five restaurants; 10,000 square feet of retail space; a spa and salon; a 223,000-square-foot indoor water park that Kalahari says will be America's largest indoor water park; and an 80,000-square-foot adventure park with thrill rides, a ropes course, climbing walls, an indoor zipline, bowling, laser tag, and mini-golf.
For groups, however, the highlight will be the 220,000-square-foot convention center, which will include two ballrooms totaling 40,000 square feet and 27,000 square feet, 16 meeting rooms, a full-service business center, and 50,000 square feet of outdoor event space.
"We're delighted to have Kalahari break ground in Round Rock," said Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan. "This will be an amazing destination for our citizens, as well as families and convention guests from across the state and across the country. We're proud of the partnership we've forged with Kalahari and can't wait for the grand opening."
