Thanks to its location -- sandwiched between Europe on one side and Asia on the other -- Turkey is an especially unique destination, with an especially unique culture. What visitors to Turkey want more of, therefore, are especially unique hotels from which to experience it.
So wagers Marriott International, which has just opened Turkey's first Autograph Collection hotel in Istanbul, the nation's capital city, it announced last week.
Like all Autograph Collection members, the new hotel -- Sofa Hotel Istanbul
-- is an independent property that participates in Marriott's sales and marketing network. Located in Istanbul's Nişantaşı shopping district, it offers 82 guest rooms that were conceived by Turkish architect Hakan Kiran, whose design includes sleek lines, custom furniture, bespoke artwork, modern lighting and a distinctive color scheme that blends grey tones with splashes of red, mustard and copper throughout.
Each room also includes a large marble bathroom with a standing shower and a separate bathtub, and some -- including five suites -- offer private balconies.
Outside their rooms, guests of the hotel can enjoy artworks by local and international artists; a 24/7 lobby restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner; a second restaurant on the rooftop, where there's also a bar and lounge; and a spa offering both Asian and European treatments, as well as a relaxation pool, Jacuzzi and Turkish baths.
Finally, for meetings and events, Sofa Hotel Istanbul features five meeting rooms for groups of up to 250 people.
Said John Licence, vice president of premium and select brands in Europe at Marriott International: "As Autograph Collection Hotels' first property in Turkey, Sofa Hotel Istanbul proudly exemplifies our commitment to providing guests with exactly-like-nothing-else experiences."
