The Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central — which was the largest hotel to open worldwide in 2012 — has opened the second of two hotel towers on the Cotai Strip, a Las Vegas-like casino and tourism district in Macao, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced yesterday.

The second tower, dubbed Earth Tower, has 2,067 guest rooms and suites. Along with the hotel’s first tower — Sky Tower, which opened in September with 1,829 rooms — it brings the hotel’s total offering to 3,896 guest rooms.

"Sheraton Macao Hotel is a landmark property for Macao and for Starwood," Josef Dolp , the hotel’s managing director, said in a statement. "Our dedicated team has worked very hard toward the completion of Earth Tower, and we all look forward to continuing to offer our guests Sheraton's genuine and exceptional experiences, as we help define Macao as one of the world's most exciting gathering places."

Along with nearly 4,000 guest rooms, the Sheraton Macao Hotel, Cotai Central includes the world's largest Sheraton Club Lounge, a grand ballroom the size of more than 11 basketball courts, more than 160,000 square feet of meeting space, three signature restaurants and three outdoor pools with poolside cafes, two of which will open soon in Earth Tower.
