When it's finished in 2022, a new high-rise development in Melbourne will be home to Australia's fourth Shangri-La hotel, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts announced this week.

Located in Melbourne's central business district, where it will overlook the city's World Heritage-listed Carlton Gardens, Shangri-La Hotel, Melbourne will have 500 guest rooms and three levels of guest amenities, including a sky lobby, several restaurants, a spa, a fitness center, a pool, and a ballroom that Shangri-La promised will be "state-of-the-art," although no details are currently available.

The new development of which the Shangri-La is a part will consist of two towers; the hotel will occupy one while the other will include approximately 300 luxury residential apartments as well as office space.  A sky bridge will connect the two towers, and retail space will occupy the lower levels of both.

"Shangri-La is privileged to be selected as the hotel operator for this world-class … development, which will be an architectural masterpiece and an iconic part of Melbourne's skyline for decades to come," said Shangri-La Asia CEO Lim Beng Chee. "We look forward to bringing Shangri-La's hallmark 'hospitality from the heart' to Melbourne, Australia's event capital."
