Its only Puerto Rican property, Gran Meliá Puerto Rico, will spend the balance of 2017 in the throes of a multi-phase renovation, after which it will be re-branded as Meliá Coco Beach, Meliá Hotels International announced today.

Located in Río Grande, Puerto Rico, Meliá Coco Beach has 550 guest rooms, 120 of which will be upgraded to become part of THE LEVEL, Meliá Hotels & Resorts' premium service concept. Also part of THE LEVEL will be six pool garden villas and a lounge that will be exclusive to THE LEVEL guests.

Other improvements, meanwhile, will encompass the property's food-and-beverage offerings -- which will be updated to include a new buffet restaurant, steakhouse, and Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant -- as well as its 36,918 square feet of meeting space, which will be refurbished with new technology.

"We are excited to watch our beautiful Puerto Rico property evolve and transform into Meliá Coco Beach," said Raul Alvarez, director of operations, The Americas, Meliá Hotels International. "With its passion for service, exceptional culinary experiences, and activities for a wide mix of travelers, the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand will be the perfect fit for guests looking to experience a combination of beachside relaxation and local culture."

Meliá Coco Beach will complete its renovation and brand transformation by December 2017.
