Kurt J. Krause has been named president and CEO of VisitNorfolk in Virginia, effective Jan. 7, 2019. "We are excited to have Kurt join our team," said Tom Van Benschoten, general manager of Rover Marine and chairman of the destination marketing organization's board of directors. "With more than three decades of experience working in hospitality, private enterprise, higher education and federal government, he the perfect choice to market Norfolk as a great destination in which to live, work, visit and do business."
A native of Arlington, Va., and a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Krause has spent much of his career working in Virginia across multiple industries. Most recently, he served as the managing director for some high-profile hotel openings, including the Hilton Norfolk the Main, the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the Cavalier Virginia Beach and the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Prior to those positions, Krause served as vice president of business affairs at Virginia Tech, as well as the senior advisor and executive director for consumer advocacy for the Transportation Security Administration.

"The city's dynamic reputation as a leader in arts, culture, and as a place to live and do business has grown tremendously in recent years, and I look forward continuing the brilliant work of the VisitNorfolk team."
 
Krause will succeed Sam Rogers, who has served as interim president and CEO since Jan. 8, 2018.
