Sir Richard Branson's hotel venture, Virgin Hotels, has broken ground on a new hotel in New York's NoMad neighborhood, it announced last week. Scheduled to open in 2018, the new Virgin Hotel New York will total 39 stories encompassing 465 guest rooms and approximately 30,000 square feet of amenities, including meeting space, multiple food and beverage outlets, a rooftop bar, outdoor terraces, and a pool and spa.

"At long last, the city that never sleeps will get a beautiful and irresistible Virgin Hotel to play, eat, work, mingle, and yes, even to sleep," Branson said when the hotel was first announced last year.

Virgin Hotels opened its first property in Chicago in January, and will open its second -- in Nashville -- next fall. By 2025, the brand expects to have 20 locations in destinations such as Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington, DC, and London.
