New lodging options are coming for convention attendees in Boston
, according to the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority
(MCCA), which announced last week that it has chosen a developer to build two mid-priced hotels across the street from the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC).
The developer, CV Properties LLC — working in partnership with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide — was one of two firms that replied when MCCA issued a request for proposals in November. Its proposal for a 330-room Aloft hotel and a 180-room Element hotel was chosen over a proposal from Carpenter & Company, who along with Hyatt
Hotels proposed a 300-room Hyatt Place
hotel and a 200-room Hyatt House hotel.
“We were fortunate to have two strong proposals submitted, demonstrating the strength of our hotel market and the appeal of the opportunity presented in the RFP,” MCCA Executive Director James E. Rooney said in a statement. “These hotels will provide much‐needed mid‐priced hotel rooms, contributing to the ongoing success of the BCEC and the South Boston Waterfront through a $140 million private investment that will create hundreds of jobs.”
CV Properties will design, finance, construct, own and operate both hotels, construction on which is expected to occur by the end of 2013, with openings in 2015.
