Aloft Tempe is Arizona's First LEED-Certified Hotel
July 20, 2010
Because it's been awarded LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council, Arizona's newest hotel, the Aloft Tempe in Tempe, Ariz., is also its greenest, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced last month.
Arizona's first LEED-certified hotel, the new property has 136 guest rooms and 528 square feet of meeting space, and joins a growing list of eco-conscious, LEED-certified buildings in Tempe, including the Downtown Tempe Transit Center, Arizona State University's Memorial Student Union Center and Papago Gateway Center.
"Environmentally-conscious development has never been more important than in today's business environment," said Michael Mahoney, CEO of Triyar Hospitality, the hotel's developer. "Our mantra has always been to build into the future and with the Aloft brand and LEED certification, we believe we have achieved that goal."
Aloft Tempe is Starwood's seventh LEED-certified hotel and the Aloft brand's first.
"For both guests and our neighbors in Tempe, we know that 'being green' is a priority, and we're very proud that Aloft Tempe achieved the high standards of the U.S. Green Building Council to earn its LEED certification," said Brian McGuinness, senior vice president of Specialty Select Brands for Starwood. "It's gratifying for us that guests can have a unique Aloft experience while helping conserve resources."
