Despite Flooding, Nashville's Music City Center Books Seven New Conventions
August 10, 2010
Since financing for it was approved in January, Nashville's new Music City Center has booked seven conventions totaling 67,000 room nights, local newspaper
The Tennessean reported last month.
Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau President Butch Spyridon called the figures "remarkable," considering that the CVB lost nearly two months of sales time after flash floods crippled Nashville in May.
"We've been selling for the most part a vision out of thin air," Spyridon told The Tennessean. "We only started having this for real in January, and then we lost May and June. I would tell you the sales results are pretty remarkable. The next step is final approval of the hotel, which is when we hit full speed."
To date, Music City Center has confirmed 312,000 room nights for conventions booked at the new downtown facility, which is expected to open in 2013. Although construction is underway on the convention center, work has yet to begin on a planned headquarters hotel.
