Wichita Wins Competition for Multiple Conventions
August 3, 2010
Despite competition from cities such as Detroit, Kansas City, Seattle and Omaha, at least seven groups have recently chosen Wichita, Kan., as their meeting destination of choice, the city's convention and visitors bureau, Go Wichita, announced last week.
Led by the International Machine Quilters Association, which will hold its annual Machine Quilters Showcase in Wichita three years in a row beginning in 2013, the groups headed for Kansas include:
• Alpha Kappa Alpha (March 2011)
• International Association of Fire Chiefs Missouri Valley Division (July 2011)
• Kansas Association of Fire Chiefs (October 2011)
• North American Securities Administrators Association (September 2011)
• Biennial International Conference on Hyperon, Charm and Beauty Hadrons (July 2012)
• American Fisheries Society North Central Division (December 2012)
Together, these seven groups' conferences and conventions will bring approximately $4 million in direct revenue to Wichita.
"This eclectic mix of organizations really demonstrates the flexibility that we have in Wichita for hosting any convention or conference," said Go Wichita President and CEO John Rolfe. "These meetings appeal to people from Wall Street executives to hobbyists and from public safety officials to academicians from around the world."
