Interim Board Names New Chair to Implement Reforms at Chicago's McCormick Place
August 3, 2010
The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), the municipal agency that owns and operates Chicago's McCormick Place convention center, has chosen David Mosena as its new board chair, it announced last month.
Mosena, who is president and CEO of Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, as well as a former chief of staff to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, will lead a six-member interim board, as mandated under guidelines approved this year by the Illinois General Assembly as part of Chicago's landmark convention reform legislation.
Chosen unanimously by its members, Mosena will lead the interim board through an 18-month transition period as MPEA implements convention reforms meant to streamline operations, revise labor rules and establish exhibitor rights at McCormick Place. Under his direction, the interim board will be tasked with finding private management for the convention center and positioning it to compete with facilities in other top-tier destinations.
"I welcome David to the Authority and I look forward to working with him and the interim board in the coming months," said MPEA Trustee James R. Reilly. "David's experience with public agencies will further help us send a strong message to our customers that Chicago is serious about cutting costs and keeping their business."
