New York's Javits Center Debuts New Exhibition Hall
August 24, 2010
New York's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center opened its new exhibition hall, Javits Center North, for its first event Aug. 1-3, when it hosted Business Journals Inc.'s Fashion Avenue Market Expo (FAME), a three-day fashion event that was part of NYC Fashion Market Week, it announced this month.
The completion of Javits Center North, which boasts 80,000 square feet of exhibition space, concludes the expansion phase of a facility-wide expansion-and-renovation project that began last summer. Currently in progress, the renovation phase will be completed by the end of 2013 and will include extensive upgrades encompassing the facility's safety, security, lighting and plumbing systems; its curtain wall and skylights; as well as its roof, which will be replaced with a green roof — New York City's largest — as part of a larger plan to LEED-certify the building.
"We are delighted with the opening of Javits Center North," Javits Center President and CEO Gerald T. McQueen said in a statement. "The hall provides additional space for our existing customers while ensuring a smooth transition during the renovation of our main building. Both expansion and renovation will bring in more business and thus more revenue to the city and state economies."
