Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has chosen Orlando as the site of its 2011 World Education Congress (WEC), taking place July 23-26, 2011, it announced this week at the 2010 WEC in Vancouver.

"We are thrilled to bring WEC 2011 to a city like Orlando with such a rich history in corporate social responsibility," MPI President and CEO Bruce MacMillan said in a statement. "MPI will bring the latest technology, strategic meeting management, CSR initiatives and education to bolster the evolution of our industry to Orlando."

MPI chose Orlando not only because it's home to one of the nation's largest convention spaces — the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC), which is the second largest convention center in the United States — but also because it's home to one of its greenest and most charitable. In addition to boasting the largest solar array in the southeastern United States, the OCCC donates more than $1 million a year in products from conferences to local charities.

"We are rolling out the green carpet for WEC attendees," said OCCC Deputy General Manager Kathie Canning.

Added Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO Gary Sain, "Orlando is honored to host this prestigious event and to showcase all that Orlando has added to its meetings offerings. Orlando is a destination built on creativity and imagination and we are confident that Congress attendees will find a great deal of inspiration during the Orlando show and throughout their stay in our destination."
