Eleven destination marketing organizations (DMOs) have been accredited under its Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP), Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) announced this month.
Thanks to the new accreditations, which are valid through 2015, DMAI now has accredited 135 destinations under DMAP, including destinations in 35 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, as well as destinations in Canada and Europe.
"Congratulations to these eleven destinations for receiving their DMAP accreditation," said DMAP Chair James T. Wood, president and CEO of the Louisville CVB in Louisville, Ky. "The DMAP process is a comprehensive review of a DMO's business procedures and accountability. These DMOs have shown their dedication to continually providing customers with superior service in accordance with international standards and benchmarks. Their commitment to accreditation clearly demonstrates the type of leadership they possess in their community and for their stakeholders."
DMAP accreditation is awarded for a period of five years to DMOs that successfully complete a rigorous application process proving their compliance with 54 mandatory standards and 33 voluntary ones. The latest DMOs to achieve it are:
• Fayetteville Area CVB (Fayetteville, N.C. - Renewed)
• Lake Havasu City CVB (Lake Havasu City, Ariz.)
• Las Vegas CVA (Las Vegas - Renewed)
• Naples, Marco Island, Everglades CVB (Naples, Fla. - Renewed)
• Poland CB (Warsaw, Poland)
• Puerto Rico CB (San Juan, Puerto Rico - Renewed)
• Richmond Metro CVB (Richmond, Va. - Renewed)
• Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (Kelowna, BC, Canada)
• Tourism Vancouver Island (Nanaimo, BC, Canada)
• Visit Norfolk (Norfolk, Va. - Renewed)
• Woodfield Chicago Northwest CB (Schaumburg, Ill. - Renewed)
"Adding three non-USA based DMOs to the distinguished ranks of accreditation this application cycle reflects the continued relevancy of the DMAP program on an international level," said DMAI President and CEO Michael D. Gehrisch. "Additionally, the renewal of seven DMOs' accreditation marks the sustainable and growing value of the program to the destination marketing industry, and reinforces the power that the DMAP seal provides these organizations when communicating to stakeholders."
