Walt Disney Parks and Resorts plans to build the first AVATAR-themed land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. In addition to setting a global box office record, AVATAR has been hailed as one of the most innovative and visually stunning movies ever produced

This new themed land is one of several expansions planned worldwide for Disney theme parks.  It will take attendees into the Pandora universe and offer new private-event options for meetings and incentives. Construction is expected to begin by 2013.

"This is a powerful example of how Disney never stops creating new experiences that are as meaningful for meetings and incentives as they are for our leisure guests," said George Aguel, senior vice president for The Walt Disney Company.  "Our theme parks have long been popular for private events, because they help planners create experiences that attendees could never have on their own.  The fantastic world of AVATAR and its incredible popularity among people of all ages will bring even more exciting event options to Disney's Animal Kingdom."

Disney and its international theme park partners will determine the locations for other AVATAR-themed lands.
