Because their days are filled with fires that need extinguishing — everything from absent speakers and missing deliveries to catering catastrophes and budget blunders — meeting planners shouldn't be surprised: Job website CareerCast.com recently named "Event Coordinator" to its list of the "10 Most Stressful Jobs of 2012."
On a 100-point scale — with points awarded in categories such as "amount of travel," "growth potential," "deadlines," and "physical demands," among others — event coordinator ranked No. 6, with a "stress score" of 49.85.
"An event coordinator is responsible for planning all logistics and activities associated with the events for which he or she is responsible," CareerCast.com explained. "Though they may conduct many events through the year, any event may be a once-in-a-lifetime special occasion for the people involved. Therefore, events often have very high visibility and high stakes for the coordinator involved."
