Meeting Professionals International has opened its newest MPI Global Training Center at Ryerson University in Toronto, it announced yesterday.

Part of the MPI Global Knowledge Plan — MPI's professional development, training and education plan for the global meetings industry — the training center joins three others that are already open in San Diego, France and Qatar. Part of Ryerson's Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, it's just one of 15 that are planned to open worldwide during the next two years.

"We are rapidly expanding our available locations for individuals in the meeting and business event industry to receive hands-on education at the local level," MPI Chief Development Officer Didier Scaillet said in a statement. "Ryerson University brings over 50 years of hospitality and event management education experience to the table, meeting key selection criteria and making it a perfect fit as an MPI Global Training Center."

Like those already open at Ryerson University, San Diego State University, France's CERAM Business School and QMDI in Qatar, all of MPI's Global Training Centers will be located at universities that already offer meeting and event management courses so that faculty and local professionals can collaborate on educational content that's customized for local meetings and events professionals.

"Meetings and conventions are a vital component of a strong tourism industry," said Tourism Toronto President and CEO David Whitaker. "They provide a solid foundation of business for a destination, and having an MPI Global Training Center reinforces the strength of the industry here." This page is protected by Copyright laws.
