In a move that will help it better serve its meeting planner attendees, The Motivation Show this year will offer a special information session for planners who are interested in the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification, the Convention Industry Council announced this week.

The Motivation Show takes place Oct. 12 through Oct. 14 in Chicago, and the CMP session will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 14.

"With more than 3,500 registrants each year indicating some involvement in meetings and events, this program will encourage many of our attendees to apply for the CMP," Motivation Show Conference Director Donna Oldenburg said in a statement. "The CMP designation conveys credibility within the meetings industry and will help these individuals distinguish themselves as career professionals who demonstrate the highest level of experience, skill and knowledge."

According to the CIC, the CMP credential increases the proficiency of meeting professionals by:

• Identifying a body of knowledge;Establishing a level of knowledge and performance necessary for certification;

• Stimulating the advancement of the art and science of meeting management;

• Increasing the value of practitioners to their employers;

• Recognizing and raising industry standards, practices and ethics; and

• Maximizing the value received from the products and services provided by Certified Meeting Professionals.

"This session will be a great addition to the meeting industry activities scheduled on Thursday during the Show," said Motivation Show Managing Director Pete Erickson, who cited planned programs such as the MPI-CAC Annual Luncheon and the show's Meeting & Event Management education track, which includes three professional seminars. "These programs, combined with an exhibit hall of over 1,000 exhibits, will provide our meeting industry attendees with unlimited networking and business opportunities this October."
