In response to demand from meeting professionals, who've asked for a credential similar to the one it gives travel agents, the International Airlines Travel Agent Network (IATAN) — a department of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) — has launched a new accreditation program for meeting planners, it recently announced.

Becoming IATAN accredited "ensures that the meeting and event planner entity and its sales are accurately identified and recognized by industry suppliers globally," according to IATAN, which will give accredited planners a special ID card identifying them as a professional meeting planner.

"We are responding to a growing interest from meeting professionals and their suppliers asking for a unique accreditation system for meeting planners, maintaining similar standards as our already established travel professional accreditation program," said Humberto Rivero, IATA's regional director for the Americas.
