The International Association of Conference Centers-The Americas (IACC-Americas) is offering a $5,000 scholarship to a hospitality student who is interested in a conference center career, it announced last week.

Supported by contributions from IACC members and associated organizations, the scholarship will be chosen from a pool of students who are nominated by hospitality educators. Nominees must be full-time, active students currently pursuing a hospitality or related degree at a North American college or University. Additionally, they must have a minimum grade point average of 3.3 and be able to demonstrate an interest in the conference center industry.

"IACC looks to lighten the burden of educational costs for the winner of this award and to further expand knowledge of the conference center concept to all students and academic institutions," said IACC-Americas President Peter Stockmann.

The scholarship winner will be chosen by a committee of hospitality educators and industry professionals during the week of Jan. 15, 2013. In addition to the monetary award, the scholarship recipient will receive complimentary registration to the 2013 IACC Annual Conference and Pre-Conference Study Tour — including lodging, meals and transportation expenses — taking place in March. One runner-up also will receive the conference attendance package, excluding the pre-conference tour.

"Educators are encouraged to recommend students with conferencing/meeting services background and career goals — whether in operations, conference services, food and beverage, or another hospitality-related discipline," Stockmann said. "This is an excellent opportunity to gain recognition and financial support for deserving students … We look forward to receiving your nomination."
