CWT Meetings & Events Boasts Major Growth

If one company’s performance is any indication, the meetings industry is in the midst of a major upswing. That company is CWT Meetings & Events, the meetings and events division of Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), which yesterday announced its 2012 performance results showing increases in meetings business in North America and globally.For a recap of last week's top stories, check out MeetingNews Minute:
Specifically, CWT reports, CWT Meetings & Events organized 35,000 meetings and events around the world in 2012, attended by one million delegates. Together, those meetings stimulated 10 percent growth in CWT Meetings & Events’ business globally, and 26 percent growth in North America. What’s more, the company’s strategic meetings management (SMM) practice has growth 200 percent since July 2010.
“This growth reflects companies’ needs to keep a close eye on cost control and introduce strategically managed meetings policies and programs that drive both results and savings,” reads a company press release.
CWT as a whole — which provides business travel services in five divisions: CWT Meetings & Events, CWT Traveler & Transaction Services, CWT Program Optimization, CWT Safety & Security and CWT Energy Services — reported a 1.1 percent decline in global sales volume for 2012, down to $27.7 billion from $28 billion in 2011. In North America, however, it experienced a 2.3 percent increase in transaction volume, “mirroring a favorable economic environment,” according to the company.
