Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) reported "impressive" attendance at its 2012 Asia-Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo (AIME), which took place Feb. 21-22 in Melbourne, Australia, it announced last week.
According to RTE, AIME welcomed 500 hosted buyers from 27 countries, which is an increase of 16.5 percent compared to 2011. Furthermore, the event hosted 779 exhibitors and 3,384 attendees. First-time visitors — which comprised 51 percent of hosted buyers and 26 percent of exhibitors — conducted 12,903 pre-scheduled appointments, which was up 15.8 percent from 2011.
"We are extremely pleased with the feedback we have received during and post show and our refreshed program provided our visitors with more opportunities to network, conduct business and be educated," said AIME Director Sally de Swart. "It was great to see over 2,000 attendees at the official welcome reception on Monday night at the Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington, hosted by the Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau (MCVB), which certainly set the tone for the whole show."
At AIME, RTE revealed research showing that 83 percent of Asia-Pacific buyers are choosing to hold their meetings and events close to home, within the region. According to show organizers, that "supports the idea that the area is holding strong in the industry."
AIME 2013 is scheduled to take place March 19-20, 2013. For more information, visit www.aime.com.au
