ASAE Board Finalizes Plans, Strategy for 2011
August 24, 2010
ASAE, which is concluding its 2010 Annual Meeting and Exposition today in Los Angeles, kicked off its annual meeting activities on Friday with a board meeting during which its directors approved a program of work for fiscal year 2011, it announced last weekend.
Included in that program is The Power of A, an awareness campaign launched by ASAE in 2009 to educate and inform policymakers about the value of associations. Next year, ASAE said, the campaign will "evolve to serve as both an internal and external platform to communicate the role of associations in building a stronger America and world." Internally, it added, The Power of A will act as the "first inclusive brand for the association industry," available for all associations to leverage and use.
Also in FY11, ASAE plans to build upon its work in Washington, D.C., with increased educational programming, partnerships and publications created specifically for the local market.
Finally, ASAE will increase its focus on digital media with a new suite of digital resources that will include several new products, such as a series of quarterly digital supplements to Associations Now, its print magazine; a re-designed website, which will debut this fall with new search features, architecture and daily news content; and an iPhone app called MyASAE, which will allow users to customize their ASAE content.
"ASAE's digital strategy will take the organization into the 21st century," said Robin Lokerman, chair of The Center for Association Leadership. "ASAE has pioneered several online and mobile tools in the past, but these new developments will be a major step toward an improved member accessibility and infrastructure that will allow the membership to connect with ASAE every day."
Additional growth opportunities for next year, according to ASAE, are small-staff organizations, which will soon benefit from a new small-staff membership category; large-staff organizations, the CEOs of which will be engaged by a new "staff ambassador" charged with educating them about ASAE member benefits; international organizations, offerings for which will be audited and enhanced; and health insurance, which will be researched with the goal of finding new financial models that will result in meaningful premium savings to associations.
